Physics Ray Optics Mix MCQ (Single Correct)

A plane mirror is inclined at an angle θ with the horizontal surface. A particle is projected from point P (see fig.) at t = 0 with a velocity v at an angle α with the horizontal. The image of the particle is observed from the frame of the particle projected. Assuming the particle does not collide the mirror, find the

A
time when the image will come momentarily at rest w.r.t. the particle,
B
path of the image as seen by the particle.

The correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION.

Sol. The image will appear to be at rest w.r.t. the particle, at the instant the velocity of the particle is parallel to the mirror,

i.e., = tan θ

or = tan θ

or t =

Path will be a straight line. Because at any instant velocity of the particle can be resolved into two components, one parallel to the mirror and the other perpendicular to it, parallel components of the particle and its image are identical. Hence the path will be a straight line perpendicular to the mirror.
