Physics Electrostatics Potential & Capacitance JEE Main 2022 - ( Electrostatics ) MCQ (Single Correct)

Given below are two statements:

Statement-I: A point charge is brought in an electric field. The value of electric field at a point near to the charge may increase if the charge is positive

Statement-II: An electric dipole is placed in a non-uniform electric field. The net electric force on the dipole will not be zero.

Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

A
Both statement-I and statement-II are true.
B
Both statement-I and statement-I are false.
C
Statement-I is true but statement-II is false.

The correct answer is:
A

If the electric field is in the positive direction and the positive charge is to the left of that point then the electric field will increase. But to the left of the positive charge the electric field would decrease.

If the dipole is kept at the point where the electric field is maximum then the force on it will be zero.
