The correct answer is:
B

The force of 100 N acts on both the boats

∴ ∴ 250a 1 = 100 and 500 a 2 = 100

or a 1 = 0.4 ms -2

and a 2 = 0.2 ms -2

Then relative acceleration

= a 1 + a 2 = 0.6 ms -2

Using S = ut + at 2 , we get

100 = (1/2) × 0.6 × t 2

or t = 18.3 s.
