Sol. To heat water from 20ºC to boiling-point, an amount of heat equal to 80 kcal must be imparted

to each kilogram me of water, i.e. work of 80 × 427 = 34,160 kg must be done. The Dneper hydroelectric station cannot do this amount of work, since 1 kg of water would acquire the energy needed for this only if it fell from a height of more than 34 km.
