Physics Motion in a Straight Line Mix MCQ (Single Correct)

A car accelerates from rest at a constant rate of 2 ms –2 for some time. Then it retards (speed decrease) at a constant rate of 4 ms –2 and comes to rest. It remains in motion of 6 s.

A
Its maximum speed is 8 ms –1
B
Its maximum speed is 6 ms –1
C
It travelled a total distance of 24 m

The correct answer is:
CHECK THE SOLUTION

(a, c)

Car goes from A to B under acceleration 2m/s 2 and from B to C under retardation.

V B = V A + a 1 t AB

V B = 0 + (2m/s 2 ) t AB …(i)

AB = × (2m/s 2 )

= (1m/s 2 ) …(ii)

V C = V B + a 2 t BC

0 = 2(m/s 2 )t AB + (– 4m/s 2 ) t BC

0 ⇒ t AB = 2 t BC …(iii)

Given t AB + 2 t BC = 6s …..(iv)

from (iii) and (iv)

t AB = 4s ; t BC = 2s

from (i)

V B = 8m/s ; AC = 24m`
