∴ l = 40 cm.
If the end corrections are a, b, 
= 
or 120 + 2 β = 120 + 3 α
∴ 2 β = 3 α
When interchanged,

or 117 + 3 β = 122 + 2 α
117 + 3 β = 122 + 
= 5
∴ β = 3 cm
α = 2 cm.
